OUR JIKO OVENS
A unique pizza oven!
Carefully handcrafted by Kenyan artisans, the Jiko Oven is a flamboyant charcoal-burning stove that can perform all the conventional tasks of a standard oven. That is, baking, roasting, steaming, toasting… you name it, the Jiko Oven will do it.
These special ovens deliver a unique and authentic flavour, which simply cannot be replicated in a standard household, restaurant or wood-fired oven. We allow them to sizzle for a whole five minutes each, resulting in a crust that is charred to perfection, and a topping that is oozing with cheesy goodness.
The practical bit
At Sandy Mama’s Kitchen, we know how many pizzas to cook to pace your event. For every 100 people at your event, we will bring one Jiko Oven. So for a 1000 people, we will have at least 10 Jiko ovens lined up, ready to go.
Each Jiko Oven can cook four – five delicious, gourmet pizzas at one time, all having direct heat from the charcoal, above and below. Every Jiko is manned by one Sandy Mama Pizza Chef who prepares the food, and one Sandy Mama Pizza Cook, who cooks the pizzas, and serves on the boards, ready for your guests!
Safety at the top of the agenda
Rest assured, we at Sandy Mama’s Kitchen know that safety is paramount, especially when working around open flames.
Although guests can see the pizzas cooked, we will set up behind the serving tables and on coconut matting to prevent accidents or damage to the ground floor. In addition, all Sandy Mama’s Kitchen staff have been trained to use the Jiko Ovens and all other equipment to a high standard. We will never put your or your guests’ safety at risk.
